It’s maple-tapping time in the Midwest! There are a few Maple Tapping/Maple Education events going on in the Chicagoland area! Why not take the kids out to enjoy an outdoor activity and learn about something they see on the breakfast table all the time!

Maple Syrup Time Chelburg Farm Indiana 3/10 & 3/11

Enjoy a sweet taste of spring and learn about the evolution of maple sugaring from American Indian methods to the Chellberg family’s sugar shack of the 1930s. See demonstrations of maple sugaring using stone boiling, kettle cooking and the sugar shack’s evaporator pan. Meet at the Bailly Chellberg parking lot.

Hike to the sugarbush to collect sap from sugar maple trees. To register, call (630) 850­-8110

Learn to identify sugar maple trees and how to pick the trees with the sweetest sap. Follow the process from sap to syrup, and taste the final product on a Maple Syrup Hike. he hikes are offered on Saturdays and Sundays through March 18.

Cost: $5 ($7 for residents)

North Park Village Nature Center Syrup Festival 3/24 – 3/25
Discover how sap is tapped from maple trees at the Maple Syrup Festival at North Park Village Nature Center, 5801 N. Pulaski Road on Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  No registration is required.

Maple Fest at Covenant Harbor Bible Camp & Retreat Center Lake Geneva, WI 3/25
This historic camp on the lake offers a pancake breakfast, maple syrup tours, children’s games and a craft fair.
