Meet Rachel Michaud and S-Cubed a York Comedy Troupe

by admin on January 7, 2013

INTRODUCING: S-CUBED!

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Rachel Michaud, a 17 year old York High School student who has managed to accomplish quite a bit for someone her age.

Over a year ago Rachel managed to start the first Sketch Comedy troupe of suburban York High School. All she needed was 20 interested students and some determination. She had both and S-Cubed (Super Sketch Suburbanites)was born. They haven’t looked back since!

Rachel who has been involved with comedy through 2nd City since the 7th grade defines sketch comedy as “a bunch of different vignettes based on outside experiences pulled from real life”.

Given their age her troupe tries to stay away from hot topics and puts together skits from their every day lives. They try to come up with sketches that other kids in her age group can identify with.

She says when she started the troupe at York, directing her peers was a concern for her. Rachel says it took some getting used to and she now feels comfortable directing her classmates. She feels that sketch comedy is a group effort and although she leads the troupe all have input.

When I asked her if she felt directing the troupe is something that is preparing her for life after high school, she readily agreed.  She stated that sketch comedy “helps you learn how to think on your feet” and that directing the troupe has her taught her about maintaining “balanceed relationships and friendships”.

When asked what inspires the sketches of her troupe she said everyone in the group draws from their everyday lives. When they meet each week Rachel assigns the troupe a topic to think during the week and expects them to come ready with some funny ideas for the following week.

Want to catch their show? S-Cubed will be performing at the Annual Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival taking place January 3rd – 13th for the 2nd year next Sunday January 13th.

S-Cubed in fact has been so successful they have formed 2 off-shoot troops with some overlapping members, Just Bust a Move and the Department of Homeland Obscurity, both of which will also be also be performing at the festival!

Well, I received my New Years motivation recently and it came packaged in a super cute draw string bag from a company called DryDudz.

My resolution this year is to get toned and these hybrid boardshorts (all boardshorts are a two-in-one including shell and attachable bikini bottom) and bikini top are just the dangling carrot I need to do so!

Dry Dudz is a new, premium performance swimsuit company that produces patented, hybrid boardshorts and bikini tops.

What I love best is the DD Quick Dry wikTec fabric liner. This highly breathable, quick-dry material wicks away moisture from the inside out, wetness is pulled away from your skin, leaving you feeling dryer and more comfortable.

They are also perfect for those who are active as the QMS tab easily attaches to the hybrid boardshort and provides security when you are being moving around, but detaches just as easily when you’re not.

We live on a lake and are in and out of the water quite a bit, it’s nice that I won’t have to feel “soggy” in between dips and I like knowing the shorts are securely attached. We also like to frequent indoor waterparks where you don’t have the benefit of the sun to dry your suit, so the quick-dry feature really makes for a more comfortable experience!

I also love that the halter style bikini top has some slight padding to it as it adds some shape and additional coverage.

DryDudz are made with the lightest material on the market which makes them super comfy and easy to move around in, and they are antibacterial treated to protect against odor and helps reduce wash time!

DryDudz are not just for women. They also sell Men’s boardshorts which are available in 5 different progressive graphic designs.

Just like the Women’s Boardshorts Dry Dudz men’s boardshorts come outfitted with technical features like the QMS™ attachment system, DD wikTec fabric, and 4-Way Stretch fabric designed to keep you comfortable not to mention fashionable!

You might want to bookmark this site as these would make a great Father’s Day gift! The liners for both the women’s and men’s suits can be purchased separately  so you can mix and match or quickly change into another pair of boardshorts.

All in all I’m very happy with the Lucy Boardshorts with liner and Lucy Bikini Top. They’re very hip looking and the quality is exceptional. I felt they were reasonably priced. The Lucy Top retails for $40 but is now on sale for $25, the boardshorts for $85 but are now on sale for $65.

New Years Eve for Kids Ideas

by admin on December 29, 2012

I’ve been poking around the internets looking for cute ideas for a kid friendly New Year’s and here’s what I came up with and what we’ll be doing:

Idea and picture courtesy of How Does She?

Make a baloon for each hour. Pop the balloon at the specified hour to reveal a fun activity!

Idea and picture courtesy of ???

Make a cookie clock. We’ll be using Pillsbury Sugar Refrigerated Cookie dough as a short cut..shhh!

Idea and picture courtesy of Hoosier Homeade

We’ll be making these countdown goody bags the day before. Inside I will be placing noisemakers and confetti for the finale!

Idea and photo courtesy of Hip Hip Hooray

New Years Eve Bingo (find PDF here)

Idea from Pinterest

We’ll be using my handy dandy ancient Hamilton Beach Milk Shake mixer to make Chocolate Banana Milk Shakes with whip cream & sprinkles!

Idea and photo courtesy of Teach Mama

Each family member will be filling out a New Years Interview sheet with questions such as :

  • What is your favorite toy?
  • What is your favorite food?
  • How do you like to spend your time?
  • What is your favorite book?
  • Who is your best friend?

I think we’ll make this a yearly tradition! I’ll be adding a section for Wishes and Goals for 2013
